At least twelve people died and thirty four were injured in a reactor blast at a chemical factory in Telangana’s Sangareddy District on Monday morning, ANI reported.

According to PTI, the explosion occurred during duty hours at the Sigachi Chemicals Industry in the Pashamylaram industrial area. According to Sangareddy police, several people are still trapped inside the building, and a major rescue operation is underway.

“Some people among the rescued are critically injured. We have not ascertained how many people are trapped inside,” a police source told The Indian Express.

Fire officials confirmed that eleven fire tenders have been dispatched to the site to manage the blaze and assist in rescue efforts. The situation remains critical, with emergency services working to reach those still inside.

“The fire fighting operation is underway and there are people still trapped in the building,” a district administration official said.

While the ruling Congress government has not yet issued a formal statement, Telangana’s Opposition leader and BRS working president KT Rama Rao responded to the tragedy on X.

“The reactor blast at Patancheru’s Pasamailaram Industrial Area is extremely tragic," Rao said. "I urge the authorities to immediately rescue the workers trapped at the accident site. Please ensure that all the injured receive the best of medical care.”

He also called for accountability and preventative measures, adding, "Safety audits are a must for all the industrial units and I demand the Govt to conduct a thorough investigation into this incident”.
