Christopher Nolan's upcoming project The Odyssey, is an adaptation of ancient Greek poet Homer's epic poem. It will have a stellar ensemble cast including Tom Holland, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Lupita Nyong’o, and Charlize Theron. Shōgun and Warfare star Cosmo Jarvis was also about to join The Odyssey, but the latest report suggests that he is no longer part of the cast.
Cosmo Jarvis replaced by Logan Marshall-Green in The Odyssey
As per a report in Deadline, Cosmo Jarvis, 35, had to drop out of the much-anticipated film before shooting, due to scheduling conflicts. The report stated that Jarvis will star in the biopic Young Stalin, which is on the Russian dictator, Joseph Stalin.
He has been replaced by Logan Marshall-Green (Prometheus and The Defeated). The details about his role is still under wraps.
The Odyssey release date and other details
The film will hit the screens in Imax on July 17, 2026. The filming locations includes Morocco, Italy, Ireland and Scotland.
The story revolves around Odysseus (played by Damon), King of Ithaca, and his 10-year long strenuous journey back home after the Trojan War. It deals with themes of loyalty, heroism, and the struggle against divine will. During his journey, he meets Polyphemus the Cyclops, Sirens, the nymph Calypso and the witch goddess Circe in the oceans that separate him from his home and wife Penelope. Holland is said to be playing Telemachus, Odysseus' son.
Earlier, Universal Pictures, sharing details about the magnum opus, wrote on X, “Christopher Nolan’s next film The Odyssey is a mythic action epic shot across the world using brand new IMAX film technology. The film brings Homer’s foundational saga to IMAX film screens for the first time and opens in theaters everywhere on July 17, 2026."
Christopher Nolan is not only directing The Odyssey but he has also written it, and produced it alongside his wife, Emma Thomas, under their Syncopy production banner.
