The India vs England Test series has had a terrific start, with the visitors building up a 150+ lead on the third day of the first test at Headingley, Leeds, on 23 June 2025. India had a stuttering start to their day as captain Shubman Gill was dismissed early by Brydon Carse. However, a strong partnership between KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant has steadied the second innings for India, building up a decent lead.
With the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy action in full swing, let’s have a look at some of the viral moments on and off the pitch regarding the India vs England Test series.
Shubman Gill Disappoints In 2nd Innings
The biggest news of the day was the early dismissal of captain Shubman Gill. After India lost Yashasvi Jaiswal, who had scored a century in the first innings, on Day 3, it was Gill’s time to depart, dragging an inside edge from Brydon Carse onto his stumps.
The batter, who scored a century on his Test captaincy debut in the first innings, managed just eight runs.
Brydon Carse’s Rise
Brydon Carse is one of the lesser-known players in the England squad, with the Durham pacer having played four Test matches for England before the Headingley contest. He had a slow start to the tournament, taking just one wicket in the first innings, although it was the vital wicket of KL Rahul.
In the early stages of the second innings, the 29-year-old bowling all-rounder has taken two crucial wickets for the Three Lions, dismissing Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill – two centurions from the previous innings – for four and eight runs respectively.
Ganguly Backs Bumrah To Play 5 Tests
Despite all the batting firepower of India, it is Jasprit Bumrah who has been the star of the first Test match so far. The pacer, despite his fitness issues, took five wickets in the first innings, dismissing players like Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, and Joe Root.
The question among Indian fans is whether the bowler can play all five Tests matches in the India vs England series, and former captain Sourav Ganguly is one who is hoping that’s the case.
“Such a pleasure to watch Bumrah bowl in all formats of the game. Hopefully, he will get support from the other end so that he can play 5 tests,” Ganguly posted on X. “It will keep India in the series.”
Bumrah himself tackled the question of his availability in a pre-match interview, jokingly saying, “That’s a conversation that we’ll have on another day”.
