    A state of emergency is unfolding across Himachal Pradesh as relentless rains trigger a catastrophic chain reaction of floods, building collapses, and landslides, pushing the official death toll to at least 16, since the monsoon began on June 20. The state is virtually paralysed due to wreckage of infrastructure: 259 roads are now unnavigable, cutting off critical access to the hard-hit districts of Mandi and Sirmaur. Around 35 houses have been fully or partially damaged, leaving several families homeless, according to the State's Emergency Operation Centre. With the power grid weakened by 614 disrupted transformers and clean water inaccessible for thousands due to 130 failed schemes, the state is drowning in a crisis with damages already exceeding ₹75 crore and no end to the deluge in sight.
