In a recent interview with GQ, Kosinski confirmed that the third instalment of the Top Gun franchise is currently under development, and it will be Tom Cruise's 'one last ride' as Maverick.
He said, "I think we've found a way to do it, not only in the scale of what we're proposing, but the idea itself of the story we're telling."
He didn't reveal much about the upcoming film but said it will be bigger and added, "It's an existential question that Maverick has to deal with, that would make Maverick feel small, I think, as a movie, compared to what we're talking about."
On Tom Cruise' role, Kosinski further said, "there's still more story to tell for him. There's one last ride. So we're working on it now,” and also confirmed that F1 movie screenwriter Ehren Kruger is writing the script.
The Oblivion director also expressed his desire to make a movie with Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise. "Right now, it'd be Cole Trickle [Cruise’s 1990 character from Days of Thunder]. We find out that he and Sonny Hayes [Pitt’s character in F1] have a past. They were rivals at some point, maybe crossed paths…” he said.
Kosinski also recalled about an "epic go-kart battle on Interview with a Vampire and said, "who wouldn’t pay to see those two go head-to-head on the track?"

Coming back to F1 movie, the sports drama opened to mixed reviews. Netizens are praising the film for its cinematic brilliance, and adrenaline racing scenes.
It also stars Kerry Condon, Damson Idris, Javier Bardem, and Lewis Hamilton among others, alongside Pitt.
