Botafogo have announced Davide Ancelotti, son of Brazil's head coach Carlo, as their new head coach.

Ancelotti has signed a contract through to the end of the 2026 season with Botafogo, with this his first job as a head coach.

He had previously served as an assistant to Carlo Ancelotti at Bayern Munich, Napoli, Everton and Real Madrid, and was also among his father's coaching staff at Brazil, with the national team confirming he will return to their staff for the 2026 World Cup.

The 35-year-old joins Botafogo having been linked with the vacant Rangers job, though Russell Martin was ultimately named as the Scottish side's new boss.

Ancelotti replaces Renato Paiva, who left the club last week following Botafogo's Club World Cup elimination. They were beaten 1-0 in extra time by Palmeiras in the round of 16.

Paiva had led Botafogo to a shock 1-0 victory over UEFA Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain in the group stage and was dismissed after just four months in the role.
