“Nobody can even believe it — that much water, that fast,” he said. “We are with the people of Texas, and we’ll make sure they have everything they need to recover.”

Last weekend, a series of violent storms swept through central Texas, unleashing several months’ worth of rain in just a few hours. The rapid deluge caused rivers to breach their banks, overwhelming homes, highways, and entire neighborhoods. In some towns, cars were seen floating down streets-turned-rivers as emergency crews scrambled to rescue residents trapped by rising waters.
Local officials say the search and rescue efforts are ongoing, with the number of missing feared to rise as more remote areas become accessible. Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) teams have already been deployed, and the National Guard is assisting with recovery and relief.
