Tim David registered his name in the record books after his blistering century in St. Kitts on Friday night as his score of 102 saw him become the fastest Australian to score a T20I century in their six-wicket victory against the West Indies.
David walked in at the crease on the last ball of the powerplay when the Aussies lost their third wicket. The power-hitter immediately settled in at the crease with a four off his first ball. David upped the ante in two overs wherein he hit nine sixes in consecutive overs against WI spinners Gudakesh Motie, Akeal Hosein and Roston Chase.
David's 50 came in only 16-deliveries, going past the joint-Australian record held previously by Marcus Stoinis and Travis Head (17 balls). David's maiden century saw him break his teammate Josh Inglis' record, who had scored a 43-ball hundred against Scotland at Edinburgh last year.
Speaking after the game, David said he was having a 'great time' in the middle.
“It was just having a great time out in the middle playing for the Australian team and every opportunity we get to play out here, we want to make the most of it,” David said.
“I didn’t think I would have an opportunity to score one hundred for Australia, so I am so glad for the opportunity and just stoked.
“The pitch was good and obviously there was a strong breeze, so you have to back your strengths. I am obviously at my best when I am attacking,” he added.
Earlier, Australia skipper Mitchell Marsh had won the toss and chose to bowl in the third game of the best-of-five Twenty20 international cricket series against West Indies on Friday.
