Indian pacer Harshit Rana has made the cut to the Shubman Gill-led side as a backup and has travelled with the rest of the team to reach Headingley Cricket Ground for the series opener against England, on June 20.
Rana, who made his Test debut against Australia last year, was not part of the actual squad for the five-match series against England. However, the BCCI did include him in the India A squad and the bowler did play the 1st unofficial Test against England Lions at Canterbury.
The 23-year-old from Delhi has represented India in Two Tests, five ODIs and a T20I match.
“He has been added as cover and arrived in Leeds with the team today,” a BCCI source was quoted as saying by Sportstar.
Ahead of the 1st Test at The Oval, the Indian cricket team were involved in an intra-squad game against India A at Beckenham.
