Indian Navy Deployed In Rescue Operation Of Yi Cheng With 14 Indians Onboard

Indian Navy’s INS Tabar rushed to aid the Pulau-flagged MT Yi Cheng 6 after a massive fire broke out onboard in the Gulf of Oman. The fire has been drastically reduced due to efforts.

The Indian Navy has responded to a distress call from the MT Yi Cheng 6 and deployed a Naval ship in the Gulf of Oman for an immediate rescue operation. On the Palau ship, 14 crew members of Indian origin were present. 

A major fire broke out on the MT Yi Cheng 6, a Palau-flagged vessel, on 26 June. The fire is said to have started in the engine room, which then led to a power outage. 

The Indian Navy posted on X, “ Indian Navy's stealth frigate INS Tabar, mission deployed in the Gulf of Oman, responded to a distress call from Pulau-flagged MT Yi Cheng 6, on 29 June. The vessel with 14 crew members of Indian origin, transiting from Kandla, India, to Shinas, Oman, experienced a major fire in the engine room and total power failure onboard."

In the rescue operation by INS Tabar, firefighting teams and equipment were transferred onboard the Yi Cheng to combat the fire. The navy reports the efforts are ongoing, with as many as 13 personnel and five crew members of the stricken tanker currently fighting the fire onboard.

Due to the assistance, the fire onboard has reduced drastically.
