Punjabi singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh has landed into controversy ever since the release of the trailer of his film Sardaar Ji 3, where he is sharing the same screen space with Pakistani actor Hania Aamir. Amid the row, the film released in theatres overseas on June 27.
Several film bodies, including the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE), have been threatening to ban and boycott Diljit and the producers in India for working with Hania. They even asked makers of Border 2 to remove the actor from the film. Following this, there were reports claiming that Diljit Dosanjh has been dropped from the upcoming film.
Is Diljit Dosanjh removed from Border 2?
A source close to the film's development confirmed to Hindustan Times that the actor hasn't been replaced or removed. "There is no plan to replace or remove Diljit from Border 2. The announcement about his casting was made almost nine months back, before any of the unfortunate situations had happened. Almost 40-50 percent of the film’s shooting has already been done, so making any change at this point is not possible," the source revealed.
As per the same report, the film's team may issue a statement soon.
On Friday, India Today quoted a source saying, "Given Border 2 focusses on the Indian Army, the makers felt the Punjabi actor's presence would not be suitable. They also did not want the entire controversy to dilute the film and its promotions. The team will re-shoot the portion that features Diljit soon."
On June 25, FWICE had written letters to Border 2 co-producer Bhushan Kumar, and actor Sunny Deol, asking them to discontinue working with Diljit. They are yet to respond to the letters.
The film body also wrote a letter to Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Home Minister Amit Shah, urging them to withdraw the permission granted for Border 2 shooting at the National Defence Academy (NDA) premises in Pune.
Directed by Anurag Singh, the war drama also stars Varun Dhawan, Sunny Deol, and Ahan Shetty. It is a sequel to JP Dutta's 1997 iconic film, Border. It is slated for theatrical release on January 23, 2026.
