Felix Auger-Aliassime and Bianca Andreescu teamed up to guide Canada to Hopman Cup glory on Sunday, beating Italy's Flavio Cobolli and Lucia Bronzetti in the deciding mixed doubles match.
Andreescu got Canada's final bid up and running with a 6-2 6-3 victory over Bronzetti, but Auger-Aliassime was unable to get them over the line in his singles match.
He lost 6-7 (7-9) 7-5 10-8 to Cobolli – who was roared on by a supportive crowd in Bari – in two hours and five minutes, teeing up a decider in the mixed doubles.
But he recovered when alongside 2019 US Open champion Andreescu, with the duo easing to a 6-3 6-3 win to land Canada's maiden title at the event.
There was something for Italian tennis fans to cheer at the Bastad Open, though, as Luciani Darderi downed Dutchman Jesper De Jong 6-4 3-6 6-3 in the final.
Data Debrief: First for Canada, third for Darderi
Canada's triumph at the Hopman Cup finals made them the 14th nation to win the Hopman Cup, and the first new victors since Poland triumphed in 2015.
Darderi, meanwhile, is only the third player to win multiple ATP-level titles on clay this season, alongside world number two Carlos Alcaraz and Cobolli.
