The Kiwis engineered a remarkable turnaround as the Proteas went from 92 for no loss in the 10th over to 177 for six in 20. The undefeated Mitchell Santner and Co thus clinched the title.

Matt Henry was the hero as he defended just seven runs in the last over. Michael Bracewell and Daryl Mitchell took superb catches under pressure to help dismiss Dewald Brevis and George Linde, respectively. The Proteas needed four to win off the final ball and Henry delivered a slower ball to fix Senruan Muthusamy. Henry finished as the leading wicket-taker with ten in four matches.
This was New Zealand's maiden trophy under new coach Rob Walter.
