The spectacular shot was hit en route Deepti Sharma's 62 not out off 64 balls, which helped the Indian women chase down a 259-run target with four wickets and 10 balls to spare. The southpaw had famously also starred in the team's previous ODI outing in England

The Indian women's cricket team continued its one-day international dominance in England, notching up a fourth straight victory in the format on English shores in Southampton on Wednesday (July 16, 2025). And just like in the last outing three years back, Deepti Sharma was in the thick of the action again this time. The southpaw struck an undefeated half-century to take India over the line, and along the way, hit a breathtaking one-handed six.

Set a 259-run target, India were well placed at the start of the 38th over with Deepti and Jemimah Rodrigues at the crease and the unbroken partnership worth 60 runs. Two balls into Lauren Bell's over, the 27-year-old spin-bowling all-rounder propelled a length delivery into the skies, picking it up from around off stump and lofting it well over deep midwicket for a soaring six.

The sizzling shot wowed the crowd and commentators alike. It was a one-handed maximum, the likes of which Rishabh Pant has been seen hitting over the years. And sure enough, Deepti later confirmed that she grasped it from the India Test vice-captain.

"I have played these shots in practice. I got to learn that shot from Rishabh Pant," she said when asked about it at the post-match presentation. Deservedly named Player of the Match for her match-winning innings, Deepti finished with 62 not out off 64 balls. You can watch the video of the one-handed six below:

As mentioned before, the off-spinner had also played a big part in the Indian women's previous ODI outing in England. Deepti first hit an unbeaten fifty (68 not out off 106), then controversially ran Charlie Dean out at the non-striker's end to help the visitors clinch a 16-run win which sealed a 3-0 series whitewash.

The dismissal had spared a massive brouhaha, evoking heated discussions around the spirit of cricket even though it was a legitimate wicket. Deepti has now made the headlines again, this time for her feat with the bat, which helped India take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. Harmanpreet Kaur and Co have already won the T20I leg 3-2.
