Shubmamn Gill is on a mission to rewrite the record books and the newly appointed India Test captain has already forced numerous changes. He has already amassed 585 runs at an average of 146.25 with three centuries in four innings in the first two Tests. English bowlers have looked clueless against him and Gill has absolutely dominated the opposition.

Gill broke a number of records in the second Test and now is on the verge of breaking some more. Let us take a look at the approaching milestones for Gill in the upcoming matches of the series.

Most runs in a series for India

Sunil Gavaskar, in his debut Test series in 1971, scored 774 runs against the mighty West Indies. No Indian has since then scored as many in a single Test series. Gill is now just 189 runs short of matching Gavaskar.

Most runs in a Test series

Don Bradman holds the record of most runs in a Test series. In the 1930 Ashes, Bradman scored an astonishing 974 runs. Gill needs 390 more runs to break Bradman's record that has stood for 96 years. The Indian Test captain has three Test matches and at most six innings to go for the record.

Most runs in a series as India captain

Sunil Gavaskar had amassed 732 in six Tests against West Indies in 1978-79 and this remains the record for the most runs by an Indian captain in a Test series. Gill will surpass Gavaskar in this tally if he adds 148 more runs.

Most runs in a series as captain

Again an iconic Don Bradman record is being chased by Gill. Bradman, in his debut series as captain, smashed 810 runs in five Tests in the 1936-37 Ashes. Gill remains 225 runs away from drawing level with the great Bradman on this record.

Most runs in a series in England by an Indian

Gill is just 18 runs away from breaking Rahul Dravid's record for most runs by an Indian in England in a Test series. Dravid had scored 602 in six innings of four matches in 2002 and Gill already has 585 in four innings.
