Shubman Gill kept felling records after records as he made his way to an iconic 269 on the second day of the second India vs England Test match at Edgbaston in Birmingham. Riding on Gill's epic knock, India posted a mammoth 587 before striking thrice to reduce England to 77/3 at the end of the second day's play.

Gill batted for an enormous 509 minutes and hit 30 fours and three sixes in his career-best knock. It also became the eighth highest Test score ever by an Indian batter. 269 from Gill is also now the highest individual score by an India Test captain as he broke the previous record of 254* by Virat Kohli. No Indian has scored more in a Test innings in England and only Virender Sehwag and Rahul Dravid have a higher individual score than Gill's 269 in overseas Tests.
The above-mentioned were only a few of the numerous records that 25-year-old surpassed in his memorable knock that came in just his second Test as the captain of the Indian red ball side.
Speaking about the innings, Gill said that he made some changes in his technique after the Indian Premier League and that has brought results.
"I worked on a few things and at the end of IPL, which is very important before going into Test cricket. Looking at how things gave gone so far, it is working for me," he said.
In a testament to his fitness levels, Gill took a sharp catch in slips after batting for 387 balls. He tried to underplay his catch but stressed on the importance of fielding.
"I did not take any slip catches for the couple of days because I was batting, but nice to get those catches. Fielding was very important and we discussed about it that if we were half good in the previous game, things would have been different," reckoned the new India Test captain.
