Following the success of Superman, director James Gunn is set for his next project. The DC Studios head is all set for a new film, which is Supergirl. On Wednesday, Gunn unveiled the official first look poster of Supergirl.

The poster features Milly Alcock, in the getup of Supergirl and wearing a overcoat over her dress. She can be seen drinking a Slurpee, standing next to a Superman poster. The caption in the post read: "Look Out. 2026."

Fans expressed their excitement in the comments section. One wrote, "I WILL BE LOOKING OUT FOR HER. TRUST" while another commented, "OMG, A Supergirl movie". "Wooww Can wait", wrote a user, and another fan said, "I need more DCU now @jamesgunn pleaseeeeeeeee".

The film was announced in January 2023 as Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, and is inspired from 2021–2022 comic book miniseries of the same name, as per a report in NBC DFW.

Alcock was officially cast in January 2024 as Kara Zor-El, Superman’s cousin.

Despite her Kryptonian roots, Supergirl's journey is different. Earlier, in an interview with ScreenRant, Gunn had said, "She's a mess. She's a total mess. I mean, I think as we learn, she's had a completely different background from Superman. A much more difficult background. He's had this wonderful upbringing by these two parents that loved him and were very healthy. And her background was much different than that. And she's ended up different than her cousin."

Supergirl is slated to hit the screens on June 26, 2026. The film also stars Matthias Schoenaerts, Jason Momoa, Eve Ridley, David Krumholtz, and Emily Beecham, alongside Alcock.

James' recently released Superman, starring David Corenswet, is performing well at the box office. The superhero film, first in Gunn's new DC Universe, has been raved by critics and audiences. Reportedly, the film has earned $155 million domestically and $250 million globally.

The film also features Rachel Brosnahan, Nicholas Hoult, Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, Nathan Fillion, and Isabela Merced, among others.
