Bengaluru will host the 7th Indian Open Para Athletics Championship on July 11 and 12 at the Kanteerava Stadium. The event will see participation from 262 para athletes from across the country and will serve as the final selection trial for the Indian team heading to the New Delhi 2025 World Para Athletics Championships later this year.

The championship will feature several experienced para athletes, including two-time Paralympic gold medallist Sumit Antil (F64 Javelin), Praveen Kumar (High Jump, T44), Yogesh Kathuniya (Discus Throw, F56), Dharambir Nain (Club Throw, F51), Rinku Hooda (Javelin Throw, F46), and Simran (100m & 200m, T12). Athletes will compete across track and field disciplines.

Paralympic Committee of India President Devendra Jhajharia said the event would help finalise India’s squad for the World Championships and wished the athletes success. Silver medallist from Tokyo and Paris Paralympics, Yogesh Kathuniya, said the meet is an important opportunity to test their form before the world event.

Sprinter Simran, who won gold at the Kobe 2024 Asian Championships, said she was looking forward to racing at home and hoped to qualify for the New Delhi Worlds.

Preparations are underway at Kanteerava Stadium, as the athletics community looks ahead to an important selection meet in the build-up to the World Championships.
