Espanyol will host Southampton in a closed-door pre-season friendly fixture at the Ciudad Esportiva Dani Jarque on Saturday, 26 July. Southampton are coming off the back of a poor domestic season that saw them get relegated from the English Premier League, while Espanyol had a respectable lower mid-table finish in the Spanish La Liga.
Under the guidance of Manolo Gonzalez, Espanyol finished 15th last season, and are looking to build with a series of friendlies ahead of the start of La Liga’s next campaign. After their friendly against Peralada, they are set to play against Girona in the Copa Catalunya on 23 July.
Despite the loss of goalkeeper Joan Garcia to Barcelona, Espanyol will look to test themselves against their English opponent on Saturday, who have a new manager – Will Still – at the helm.
The Saints had a historically disappointing domestic season in 2024-25, finishing bottom of the Premier League with just two wins. They played out a goalless draw in the friendly against Valenciennes, played in two 60‑minute halves. Southampton will kick off their EFL Championship season on 2 August.
