In a moment of high drama on Day 2 of the first Test between India and England at Headingley, Rishabh Pant had a miraculous escape that stunned players and spectators alike. The incident unfolded shortly after a tense verbal exchange between Pant and England wicketkeeper Jamie Smith, adding even more spice to an already intense Test match.
It all began in the first session when Pant, who had been batting aggressively and had already reached his century, came face to face with England's young off-spinner Shoaib Bashir. Looking to assert dominance, the India vice-captain danced down the pitch in typical fashion and attempted a booming drive. However, he was completely beaten by the sharp turn, missing the ball entirely.
Pant’s attempted slog was so forceful that he lost grip of his bat, which went flying towards short fine leg. With Pant stranded well outside his crease and without a bat in hand, England had a golden opportunity to dismiss him. But fate had other plans.
