Curtis, 66, told The Guardian that she has been planning to retire from Hollywood after watching her famous parents get "rejected" after they reached a "certain age."

"I witnessed my parents lose the very thing that gave them their fame and their life and their livelihood, when the industry rejected them at a certain age," she said, adding, "I watched them reach incredible success and then have it slowly erode to where it was gone." The Halloween actor called it "painful."

She further said, "I have been self-retiring for 30 years. I have been prepping to get out, so that I don’t have to suffer the same as my family did. I want to leave the party before I’m no longer invited."

On the work front, Curtis is currently gearing up for the release of Freakier Friday, the sequel to the 2003 family comedy. She has reprised her role as Tess Coleman in the upcoming film, which also stars Lindsay Lohan. The film is releasing in theatres on August 8, 2025.

The Everything Everywhere All at Once star recently confirmed the reboot of the popular 1984 American television series Murder, She Wrote. Curtis will play the role of crime writer turned detective, Jessica Fletcher, that was earlier played by Angela Lansbury in the original series.

In a conversation with Entertainment Tonight, Curtis said, "Oh, it’s… happening. We’re a minute away, but yeah, (I’m) very excited. Very excited". "But I’m tamping down my enthusiasm until we start shooting. I have a couple of other things to hustle, but then I’ll get to enjoy that work," she added.
