Bengal: PM Modi Slams Mamata's Govt Over Murshidabad Riots, Women’s Safety

Modi cited riots in Murshidabad in April and a spate of crimes against women to target the Mamata Banerjee-led administration, alleging that it has failed on every front—from law and order to education and industrial development.

Launching a blistering attack on West Bengal's Trinamool Congress government given, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday accused the government of fostering an environment of violence, corruption, and insecurity that has turned the state into a hostile destination for investment and a dangerous place for women.

“Why will investors come to a place where riots take place, and the police act in a biased manner? Where violence breaks out at the slightest incident, why will anyone invest?” he asked, while addressing a rally in Durgapur.

Citing riots in Murshidabad in April and a spate of crimes against women, he said, "Over the past decades, the situation in this region has become increasingly unfavourable for investment and employment. Frequent incidents of violence, biased policing, and a lack of faith in the justice system create an environment where no one feels confident about investing."

Further expressing concern over women's safety, he said, "Even hospitals in Bengal are not safe. When a doctor was subjected to atrocities, the TMC government rushed to protect the accused. Before the state recovered, another atrocity was reported from a college, and once again, the accused were linked to the ruling party."

Targeting the ruling party’s oft-repeated slogan, he said, “The party that speaks of ‘Maa, Mati, Manush’ (mother, land and people) is now causing anger and heartbreak by allowing injustice against daughters under its rule.

With a direct appeal to the youth, Modi promised a better future under the BJP’s leadership.

“I want to assure the youth that Bengal’s current problems can be fixed. Once a new government is formed, the state can become a leading industrial hub in the country. Give BJP a chance once - choose a government that is hardworking, honest, and strong,” he said with an eye on the 2026 assembly polls.

Declaring that “viksit Bangla (developed West Bengal) is Modi’s guarantee, Viksit Bengal is BJP’s Sankalp”, the Prime Minister asserted that real change-“Asol Poriborton”-would come only when the Trinamool Congress is removed from power.

“The TMC government stands as a wall obstructing Bengal’s development. The day this wall falls, Bengal will accelerate towards a bright future,” he said.
